How Much Money Can I Expect To Make?

The great thing is that, with this business, the answer to this question is entirely in your hands.  It will depend on a number of things, like your work ethic, the time you devote to the business, the amount of marketing activity you undertake, the way in which you deploy the techniques we give you and, of course, your existing skills, experience and contacts.

Costs

What I can tell you is that your costs, for a completely personalised, wrapped,  chocolate bar should be around 44p. (40p for the chocolate, 3p for the wrapper and 1p for other costs).

Income

Your sale price is likely to be between around £1 and £1.50 per bar, meaning that your ‘gross profit’ should typically be somewhere between 60p and £1.10 per bar.

So, how many bars are you going to sell? Well, like I said, that’s pretty much up to you – and it will depend on many factors. But let me give you an example business plan by way of illustration: (Please remember that these figures are for illustration only. They are not a guarantee of sales volume or earnings.)

• A typical wedding order can be for 100 bars – and you might decide to plan to do at least one wedding each month. That’s 100 bars per month;
  
  
• Children’s birthday parties tend to be the mainstay of the business, so you might decide to target, say, 15 such parties each month. An average order for a children’s party tends to be around 20 bars; 15 x 20 is 300 bars per month;
  
  
• Other events, like older birthday parties, Bar Mitzvah’s, Thank Yous, Prom Nights, Halloween, Valentines etc might be in your plan to generate, in total, say an average of 100 bars per month;
  
  
• Word of mouth can bring in a great deal of business – especially if you get your bars circulating in the right circles! You might decide to plan for 100 bars per month from this source, say;
  
  
• Running a coffee morning or a ‘My Little Wrapper’ party  can generate further orders. Let’s say you plan to do one such event each month and you expect it to generate orders for another 100 bars;
  
  
• You could decide to go to a different Nursery group each month and set up a display table. Done well this could generate orders for another 50 bars, say;
  
  
• Online and ebay sales has the potential to add further orders to your Plan.
  
  
• Then you’ve got the Corporate market. A single order here can range from 100 bars to 2000 bars, or more.
  
• Similarly, Fundraising offers potential for big order volumes.

Corporate and Fundraising can really get your business motoring, but you might decide neither is something you want to pursue. It’s up to you.

You can see from this example how you could be producing an average of 1,000+ bars per month – on a very part-time basis.  You could aim to do more than this – or a lot less. It’s entirely up to you.

Every 1,000 bars you sell should deliver you between around £600 and £1,100 profit, depending on the price that you sell them for.

Actual 'production time' for you to design, print and wrap 1,000 bars will be around 16 - 18 hours - which equates to a very attractive 'hourly rate', I'm sure you'll agree.
